The annual event for most children means inviting friends to a traditional feast with offerings of gifts. But Marissa and her mother, Dori White, decided this year to take this opportunity as a way of giving to those less fortunate.

He decided to forgo the typical gifts and instead of asking for donations to rescue the endangered animals Pender (PEAR), a group that finds new homes for homeless animals in the area.

The entire family, including dad Matthew White, brothers and Darius Darrien White, and sister Olivia, delivered a basket full of presents, March 14 at PEAR, the organization’s weekly adoption fair PetSmart in Wilmington.

Two of her rescue dogs – Snowball and Daisy came too, along with his friend of the family of Selena Curry. In the house were two more rescue dogs and a cat.

“It renewed my faith in the human spirit, there is a family out there that says, ‘Hey – I do that,” “pear founder Alice Butts said.

It was a family affair, with everyone in Chipping to help spread the word about the special birthday party Marissa on March 13. Darrien Darius and helped put up flyers and invitations in the mail went through school and on Facebook.

She is an animal lover and wants to one day of volunteering in a local shelter.

Cape Fear grade, Elementary School third donated dog and cat food, treats, beds and blankets. And although the request was for donations of animals, his friends brought some gifts for Marissa, and his parents bought him a new bike.
