Soroptimist International of the Hills and Chino Hills Soroptimist International recently joined forces to help improve the lives of some of the neediest children in San Bernardino County.
The international group of professionals works tirelessly to help women and children as well as local chapters.
And as part of the organization’s annual philanthropy, members participate in a Saturday of Service. For these two local groups, which meant the collection cinch mini bags or backpacks and filling them with personal hygiene items to donate to children in foster care.
The donations were made recently to Kara Hunter CASA – Court Advocate program appointed conservator with the county. These CASA volunteers work with children and adolescents and are their representatives and advocates in the room. These people talk and support abused and neglected youth in the county.
Filled bags of 48 members of the Association for children between 12 and 17 years of age who are in the program. 16 The Cyndie O’Brien, daughter of a year old, Abby, brought along his camera and recorded entertainment and service as their way to help.
“Association members worldwide working to help women and children. Our particular group wants to help children and that is why she got involved with this. There are too many of these children in the system, some 3,000 of them. We decided to fill these bags with hygiene items, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, just the basics, but for many of these young people who have not, “said Mack, who is vice president of his club community service.
“Some of us in the group have taken knitted or crocheted hats, so for all children. We wanted to know the caps were specially made for them.”
Providing smiles and laughter in life that some have of anyone is something that the local group working to make all year.
Besides this project, members of the Soroptimist of the foothills, for example, provide birthday parties for all children with Pacific Lifeline shelter for battered women and children and to cook a birthday dinner specially planned for young people who helped with Children’s Hope.
“That’s why I got involved with Soroptimist five years ago. I was not interested in networking or simply join a large group. I looked for a group that could really make a difference in the community, who actually got to know people that helps, “he said.
“I can tell, we know the children helped by these nonprofit organizations we work with and gives a sense of satisfaction. Do you really earn 10 times what is given.
The Soroptimist of the foothills next project is to provide an unforgettable Mother’s Day for women and children in the Pacific Lifeline Upland.
Each year, members of buying gifts and then the kids in the program get to “buy” a gift for their moms. The members help the children wrap the presents.
